Police uncovered suspected stolen groceries worth nearly £1,700 in the boot of a car that had been seized for being uninsured.

Two individuals went to collect their vehicle from Parkside Station in Cambridge, only to find that officers had discovered items including coffee, washing detergent, and toiletries in the boot.

"To make matters worse, more suspected stolen items were found in the woman's handbag, which she thoughtfully brought along to the police station with her," the force said in a Facebook post.

The man and woman were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal.
