A two-alarm fire damaged two houses and at least one car on Homestead Avenue in Metairie on Monday night, according to Eastbank Consolidated Fire Department Chief Charles Hudson.

Hudson said firefighters were called at 8:14 p.m. to a house at 1253 Homestead, where he said the fire started under a carport. Flames engulfed the house and at least one vehicle, and Hudson said the fire quickly spread to a neighboring carport at 1249 Homestead.

Footage of fire’s aftermath shared by WVUE-TV shows two burnt out cars parked under a charred carport.

The residents of both homes escaped and no injuries were reported, Hudson said.

Firefighters called for a second alarm at 8:22 p.m. and the fire was under control by 8:45. Hudson said firefighters were still on scene as of 10 p.m. hosing down hotspots.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation, he said.
